While I may agree with Avast getting the “best antivirus for Mac” label I wonder what these results are based on. Sophos has better detection rates though less features. I’ll choose detection rate over features any day. Bitdefender has pretty poor detection rates as does Trend Micro (which is a poorly written Mac app as well). Kaspersky does alright but is outperformed slightly by Avira. With the best tested product being a free one, all paid options should be ignored as they are a waste of money (unless you want more than just antivirus, in that case Norton’s firewall is very nice). In order of detection rate (still an antivirus’ most important feature): Sophos, Avast, Avira, Kaspersky, Bitdefender and Trend Micro (Titanium, Smart Surfing was discontinued).
